Carr Brothers Gathering Reviews

Recently moved to the area about 7 months ago, and pasted the Carr Brothers building several times before eventually stopping in. Man, I wish I had stopped in sooner! There is not a single item on their food menu that does not disappoint, and the specials are just incredible! Do yourself a favor, and stop in for a visit to this small town pub! You won't regret it!!!!

I came here on a Thursday night as I had heard great things. It is in a residential neighborhood but there is plenty of parking outside. Upon walking in there are plenty of seats at the bar and table seating. There are a few TVs. There are no draft beers but a good election of bottles beers. I was warmly greeted and provided a menu. I came in with the expectation of ordering take-out so I had a couple goose island IPAs while I waited. The prices were reasonable. I got the food home and I had a burger and my wife had the chicken fingers. All I can say is wow! Burger was one of the best I have had. Burger seasoned and the temperature was perfect. The chicken tenders were really good especially with the homemade honey mustard. Everyone was so friendly, we will be back.

Good food, neighborhood bar & grill. They used to allow smoking inside, which is a huge turn off for me. So, I get take out. So I cannot say whether or not smoking is allowed. Home cooked meals and good bar drinks are here to enjoy. Cheers

The burgers are phenomenal! I've never heard of the place until a friend of mine that lives in Hopewell mentioned it. It looks like they have other great food there as well but for my first time here I had the Barry Burger, which is the biggest patty you can get cooked medium well with anything you want on it or get it fully loaded with bacon, etc.. Its worth the trip down to this place. Great service and friendly staff.

I moved to the area in June and we drove past this place a good 50 times before I realized it was a restaurant. We decided to give this place a try for my boyfriend's birthday and we LOVED it. It was a Tuesday evening and only 1 other table was seated. Service was fast, the waitress was friendly and the food was so good! We both got a burger-they have 3 different sizes and you customize the toppings as you wish. Definitely the best burger in town. My kids had chicken tenders and fries which were also good! I also can't forget to mention it's affordability! My only suggestion to the owner is the menu could use a little updating - otherwise great spot! Will definitely return and have already been telling friends and family!

Hands down best f*****g burger in town with a great atmosphere to go along with it. I will be back. *Seattle

Veggie burgers are the best! Good food. Good people. Good times. Always! (No draft beer FYI)
Carr Brothers Gathering
Carr Brothers Gathering at 3100 Jackson Farm Rd in Hopewell, VA isn’t just another diner—it’s the kind of place locals keep in their back pocket, where warmth fills the room as much as the smell of smoked brisket and fried catfish. If you’ve been searching for a real Carr Brothers Gathering place, trust us—you’re about to find out why this one's earned that name.
A beloved gathering spot where flavor meets familiarity
Just off the quiet stretches of Jackson Farm Road lies a hidden gem that’s become a go-to for both longtime residents and travelers passing through Hopewell. Carr Brothers Gathering isn’t flashy, but that’s part of its charm. The wooden booths, handwritten specials board, and relaxed chatter over refilled coffee mugs tell you everything you need to know—this is home. The diner’s soul is its people, and it feels like everyone here has a story, a seat, and a favorite dish.
And speaking of favorites, their menu doesn’t play around. From hearty breakfasts with golden hash browns and thick-cut bacon to their famous slow-cooked pork ribs, everything comes out tasting like it was made with patience and pride. Regulars swear by the smoked turkey sandwich on toasted sourdough—served with just the right touch of slaw and a side of seasoned fries. Everything’s made fresh, and portions are generous, true to Southern hospitality.
Dishes with a story, served with heart
What sets Carr Brothers Gathering apart isn’t just the food—it’s the way the food reflects the community. You’re not just ordering a burger; you’re tasting generations of recipes. Whether it's their weekend-only chicken and waffles or the banana pudding that disappears before 2 PM, each dish tells a story of family, tradition, and the kind of kitchen you wish you had at home.
You’ll spot framed photos on the walls showing the diner’s history—back when it was just a humble shack run by the original Carr brothers. Today, it’s grown, but the roots remain. The Carr Brothers Gathering place isn’t just a name; it’s a promise of familiarity, consistency, and meals that remind you of the good stuff in life.
A local landmark surrounded by community staples
Nestled near neighborhoods, farms, and local schools, the restaurant feels integrated into Hopewell life. It’s walking distance from a couple of antique stores and just a short drive from Appomattox River views. Many folks stop by after Sunday service or bring their families in after football games. That’s part of the magic—it’s not just a diner, it’s part of the routine.
The location itself is convenient for locals but also easily accessible for folks coming in from Richmond or Petersburg. It's a comfortable stopover on any road trip through Virginia. Pull into the gravel lot, and within minutes you’re part of the Carr Brothers rhythm—no fuss, just food and faces you’ll want to see again.
Rave reviews and repeat visits make it a standout

On any given week, you’ll find comments from customers raving about the melt-in-your-mouth brisket, the perfectly crisped catfish, and the genuinely kind staff who remember your order after just one visit. The service isn’t fast food quick—it’s better than that: thoughtful, unrushed, and authentic.
What’s especially telling? The sheer number of repeat customers. You’ll see folks drive across town just to sit in the same booth they sat in last week. That kind of loyalty doesn’t come easy—it’s built on trust, consistency, and a menu that delivers every single time.
Whether you’re planning a quiet breakfast, a family lunch, or just need a place to grab a great meal in good company, Carr Brothers Gathering brings it all together in one cozy stop. And once you find your favorite dish—be it the fried green tomatoes or the stacked meatloaf sandwich—you’ll understand why this spot isn’t just liked, it’s loved.
Wow! Th3 service here was GREAT! Our server, Christine, was so nice and very informative on the establishment being that it was our first time. The cook, I didn't catch her name, but she was very nice as well and she cooked our burgers perfectly . We read the reviews before we came and they were raving about the burgers and I will say we were not disappointed at all. We got the Noah burger and the Mason burger with all the fixings. WHEW! please go and try it for yourself. Fresh is an understatement. The ambiance is very demure.
